MIDLAND Texas -- Putting Children & Education First!
A couple of weekends ago, I had the great pleasure to participate in the Black History Month activities at Midland College (Midland, Texas) being coordinated by my great friends, James & Robbyne Fuller and the planning committee.
It was incredible to see the outpouring of interest and support for honoring the contribution of great philosphers, scientists, literary scholars, inventors, entertainers, educators and public servants sprinkled throughout our ancestrial legacy. Regardless of the color of our skin, we should all be inspired by stories of courage and perseverance it took for these great historical figures just to have the right to pursue their dreams, let alone the commitment it took to actually accomplish them.
Soul Purpose was able to participate in the activities by presenting the first Soul Purpose Academic Excellence Awards to 26 deserving students from Midland College and Midland Independent School District who were selected by committee for their academic excellence and community service. It was an wonderful way to further our corporate mission to redefine empowerment...and what group could be more ready for the message that they can do anything and be anything they wish than our young adults.
No matter your chosen field, we should all lend a helping hand, an encouraging word and offer the benefit of our wisdom to those who will come after us.

Saints, Not Ain'ts!
The spirit must become so minimized when you're repeatedly told you're not good enough and will never be successful. Imagine what it must be like being told that for 43 years! But when you can put blinders on to what others say and you can even ignore the absence of success in your life...just see the possibilities...put one foot in front of the other to maintain a forward progress...practice to perfect your craft...then you can be like the New Orleans Saints and capture the most prescious prize in your lane! Yeah, Saints. They ain't no AINT's!
Whatever it is that you are allowing to hold you back, whatever fear is keeping you from experiencing freedom, who ever you are "listening" to that is not feeding your spirit...LET IT/THEM GO!
If the Saints can do it, so can you! Stay prepared to show yourself worthy and in God's time, you will achieve your ultimate dream!

EXERCISE THE POWER OF CHOICE
Everyday we make choices that affect the quality of the life we live. We can choose to focus on the obstacles and let them hinder us or choose to use them as stepping stones to something greater. So, how do you choose to live an empowered life?
First, choose to discover your passion. If you don't know what your passion is, get ready for a wonderful journey. Whatever it is, try it. Start with your hobbies and keep going until you find that one thing that keeps you smiling and makes you feel good.
Second, choose your inner circle. Separate yourself from people without vision if their energy holds you back rather than motivating you to move forward. After a conversation or visit with someone ask yourself if you feel more or less optimistic about achieving your goals. If more, keep them close around. If less, love them from a distance for a while until you are more grounded in your commitment.
Third, choose to educate yourself. Don't rely on others to know what you should know. Take the time to get the information and develop the skills you need. Connect with people who ARE DOING what you want to do. (Not those who were doing or who are talking about doing.) When you have the information for yourself, you are in the best position for making critical decisions. No one and no circumstance can take away your skill or knowledge.
Fourth, choose your empowerment vehicle. How are you going to power your passion? How will you generate the extra income and restructure your life so you have the time to develop your passion?
Each day, take another step. If our choices (or lack thereof) make such a big difference; let's make choices everyday that will take us closer to living a purpose-driven life.
